CHICKENPOX
Kyle has finally gotten the chickenpox. About 2 sundays ago, he was playing with his cousin Angie, when the next day they called and told us she had Chickenpox. So I told Kyle's school about it and all they said was, "We'll just see what happens." After a week, I had totally forgotten about looking for any signs of the chickenpox, so as I was helping Kyle button his shirt for church today, I noticed all these dots on him. The worst part is that yesterday he was having a play date with his friend Jacob and a bunch of his cousins were visiting . So I think Kyle wil be the culprit in getting like 10 kids sick. I feel so bad! Oh well, hopefully they won't all get sick

DIAPERS
Ok, so you all are going to think I'm outta my mind, right? CLOTH DIAPERS?? GROSS! SO 50 YEARS AGO!Well, I gotta say I love it! Since becoming more aware of all the CHEMICAL JUNK in eveything we use, eat etc., I have been trying to make homemade alternatives to everyday products we use. With disposable diapers, I just got tired of the messes leaking out, getting the clothes all nasty and cleaning off all the gel crystal stuff the diapers leave behind. So I decided to give cloth diapering a try. At first I was totally confused with all the options: one size diapers, all-in-one diapers, pocket diapers, fitted diapers, prefolds, covers... After LOTS of reaserch, I chose to try the Bum Genius all-in-one diapers. No pins, or plastic covers, as easy as disposables except you are not adding to the landfills :). Just stick them in the washing machine and then dry them for free in the sun! Anyway, I just want to tell anyone who is thinking about maybe going this route, ITS WORTH IT!

HOMEMADE LAUNDRY SOAP
I have just made some homemade laundry soap. So far, I have used it on two loads of laundry; one load was colors and the other was whites and cloth diapers. So far so good. Clothes look and smell clean so I guess they are, right?
Recipe is :
1 cup BAKING SODA
1 cup WASHING SODA
1 cup GRATED BAR SOAP (I used Dr. Bronners lavender castile bar soap)
1.5 cups BORAX
I use 2 heaping TBS per load. I have an HE front loading washing machine so you might have to adjust the amount for your washing needs. Let me know if you try it out and how it works for you.

CANNING
We have been doing a lot of canning lately. We just finished some strawberry jam this week. We have also canned butter, chicken and ground beef. I have found a couple of poeple who say they have canned cheese so I might try that next. We like the idea of having food available in the event that we can't get to a store or in case of any other kind of emergency. I'ts really quite fun seeing what kind of stuff you can keep on your shelfs for long term storage.
I'm finally blogging!
Hi everyone! I have finally created a blog. I'll be posting as soon as I can figure how this all works:)
